Shanghai Metro Line 10 is an important key line in Shanghai rail transit network. Phase I is from Xinjiangwancheng Station to Hongqiao Railway Station, with the branch line connecting Hanghua branch line at Longxi Road Station and arriving at Hangzhong Road Station. It passes through central areas of Shanghai such as Xintiandi, Yuyuan Garden, Nanjing Road, Huaihai Road, Sichuan Road, and Wujiaochang sub-center, therefore it is called “Golden Line”.

Project Overview
36 km long, 31 stations, designed interval of 85s, operation interval of 100s, and designed maximum speed of 80kph.
On April 10, 2010, the block mode was put into use to carry passengers.
On July 23, 2011, full function of CBTC system entered into service to carry passengers.
On August 9, 2014, it was provided with GoA4 (UTO) fully automatic operation, which is the highest grade of automation internationally so far.
For the past four years since the opening of automatic operation, the average punctuality rate and delivery rate of Line 10 have both reached 99.9%. The average cycling time has been shortened by 600 seconds, the average turnback time shortened by 120 seconds, the average running speed increased by 3 km/h, and the average depot exit and entrance time shortened to 130 seconds. Under the same service quality, the number of trains has been reduced by 2, and the number of staff per kilometer has been reduced by 15. It has also realized the tracking of train exit and entrance, significantly improved the operation safety, reliability and efficiency, and greatly reduced the operation and maintenance costs.
Fully Automatic Operation (FAO) - Urbalis 888 Fully Automatic Train Control System
By applying Urbalis 888 fully automatic train control system, Shanghai Line 10 has realized automatic operation through the whole process, including automatic train wake-up, operation in the depot, automatic train washing, and automatic operation on the main line. Moreover, the control over departure, stop, opening and closing door, and air conditioning and lighting inside the train is all automated, requiring no human intervention.

Innovations
• It has developed fully automatic driving safety control platform with international advanced level, and realized GoA4 operation control and service management of fully automatic driving train with control center as the core. Based on the safety coding and error control technology for safety related functions, real-time fault detection technology and adaptive fault response module developed, the system debugging, error correction and fault tolerance is improved, and the average fault-free mileage is 448.8% higher than the conventional line.
• It has developed fully automatic operation dispatching system and fully automatic depot in China. By applying the theory of decentralized autonomy, it has achieved efficient control and management of the line, rolling stock and depot, increasing the average running speed by 7.8% and reducing the time of exit and entrance by 50% compared with conventional lines, and it has been applied to developed countries and regions.
• It has developed intelligent train control technology in China with rolling stock and signal highly integrated, including fully automatic train sleep/wake-up, comprehensive detection, automatic shunting, fully automatic washing, online diagnosis, real-time adjustment, fully automatic depot control. With this technology, the application level, safety level and maintenance efficiency of the train have been improved, and realized the highest grade of fully automatic operation through the whole course.
• Based on fully automatic driving monitoring system, mechanisms such as multi-region data synchronization and multi-system linkage, data aggregation and cleaning are realized. It has also developed intelligent analysis and maintenance decision support technologies, enhancing the ability of quick recovery and improving system availability and maintainability.
